Santonio Holmes Deactivated After Marijuana Charge

The Steelers are flying high at 5-1, being arguably the best team in their division (AFC North) and quite possibly in the AFC, but things just got a little harder for Big Ben and his boys after Pittsburgh's wide out Santonio Holmes gets sidelined after being caught by police with three joints in his car.

Even though the Steelers will probably be alright without Holmes in the lineup, it couldn't have come at a worse time as they go into week 8 against the 5-1 New York Giants.

"At this point we've chosen to name him as inactive," coach Mike Tomlin said after yesterday's practice, in which Santonio Holmes was not present. "His situation has created somewhat of a distraction and we want to minimize that as much as we can and remain focused on the task at hand."

It seems this season no team has been able to avoid some sort of trouble with their players in the NFL, especially at the wide receiver position, Steelers week 8 opponent could tell you that after dealing with their superstar receiver in Plaxico Burress problems all season long.

Holmes will sit out the game against the Giants, but the no decisions have been made by the league in terms of suspension or further discipline for the three year man.
